35 Unread Email Messages

I went to bed last night with 35 unread email messages. You have to understand that this almost never happens. Oh perhaps sometimes I come home late and am so tired that I go right to bed. But as a general rule all email messages are read before I go to bed. Not always replied to of course. Often I do some triege and drag a lot of messages to the Task pane and set a time to be reminded to handle them the next day. Other messages are read and deleted. But still I read them all. I am or  at least have been addicted or perhaps compulsive. But last night I just looked through the list and decided that nothing was worth staying awake to read. And I wasn't even all that sleepy.

I also left about 25 unread blog posts. Less unusual but still uncommon. I'm not sure what this means. Was it a once day aberation or the start of a trend? Am I getting control of my life or is the whole email/blog thing starting to get old and tiresome. I guess time will tell. Right now I have to go handle some of this email.

Is this the same guy who wondered if getting the web-active smart phone would mean he'd never be "out of contact"? 8^)

I think The Ray Bradbury Theatre had the story of a world always in contact. The main character was a psychiatrist who was evaluating the sanity of someone who so desired peace and quiet that he smashed his cell phone and poured a strawberry milk shake into his fax machine. In the end, the psychiatrist came to see things similarly, and poured a shake into his own fax.

Blog posts are easier to handle. If I have a backlog of blog entries unread, I just select all and hit delete. Of course, we can't do that with our work emails unfortunately.

That is one reason why I don't want to connect my SP5 to Exchange. For me, technology is a business enabler, I do not want to be managed by it and chained to my office even from home or on the road.

35 is about a half to a third of what I get on my work account in an average day. I tend to get 20-30 on my home email as well but most of that is spam.
